French-Style Bean And Sausage Casserole

8          ounces smoked frankfurters, beef franks or other cooked sausage, cut into 1-inch slices
4          ounces cooked Polish sausage, cut diagonally into 3⁄4-inch slices
1          can (16-oz.) red kidney or pink beans, drained
1          can (16-oz.) garbanzo beans, drained
1          tablespoon flour
1          can (8-oz.) tomato sauce
1⁄4       cup dry red wine
2          tablespoons packed brown sugar
1          tablespoon minced onion
2          teaspoons prepared mustard
1⁄2        teaspoon salt
1⁄4        teaspoon each garlic powder and crushed thyme

MICROWAVE METHOD

Arrange sausages in bottom of 1 or 1-1⁄2 quart microwave dish. Layer drained beans evenly over sausages. Measure flour into separate bowl; slowly blend in tomato sauce and wine. Add remaining ingredients and blend. Pour over beans in casserole. Microwave, covered, at full power 6 to 7 minutes; stir after 4 minutes. Let stand 2 minutes. Stir before serving.  Makes 4 or 5 servings.

CONVENTIONAL METHOD

Combine sausages and beans in oven-proof baking dish as directed above. Blend flour, tomato sauce and wine; add remaining ingredients. Pour over beans and sausage; stir. Bake, covered, at 350ºF. 30 to 35 minutes or until thoroughly heated.
