Pioneer Bean Pot

1          pound dry light or dark red kidney beans
1          large onion, sliced
1          ham bone
2          teaspoons whole cloves (tie in a small cheesecloth bag)
1          can (8-oz.) tomato sauce
1          tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
2          tablespoons molasses or syrup
Salt to taste (1 to 2 tsp.)

Soak beans by preferred method. Drain. Cover beans with fresh water, heat to boiling. Add sliced onion, ham bone, and cloves. Simmer 2 hours. Discard the cloves, and add remaining ingredients. Simmer an hour longer, adding a little hot water if beans cook too dry.  Makes a hearty dish for 4.
